BOOK BLURB:
Ryan Johnston and Daniel Miller, reunited at Ryan's twin sister's wedding after four years of forced separation, are hoping to build a happy life together. Ryan wants nothing more than to be an equal partner to his lover, but his self-confidence is very low and his biggest fear is that he has nothing to contribute to their future. Daniel, thinking all is well now that Ryan has accepted his marriage proposal, is unprepared when their relationship is threatened.
Ryan's homophobic parents plan to break up the couple, and they let nothing stand in their way as they attack Ryan, hoping to force him to end the engagement and leave town forever. It almost works ~ Ryan is ready to give in to protect his lover ~ but Daniel isn't willing to let him go. Ryan can fight the outside forces trying to tear them apart, but only if he realizes what his fears of unworthiness are doing to the man he loves. Daniel and Ryan will have to stand together to protect their right to keep each other and their love.
BOOK REVIEW:
"To Keep and To Love" by Serena Yates is a continuation to her earlier book, "To Find and To Keep."
Ryan can't believe that his life has come full circle, returning him home to the man he loves, Daniel. Daniel and Ryan fell in love four years ago, but the nasty tactics from his homophobic parents drove Ryan away with little more than the clothes on his back. Ryan came home just to see his younger twin sister Nicole married, but he never expected to find Daniel waiting for him. Daniel never truly gave up hope that they would eventually be together again. On the day of the wedding, Ryan received a letter from his parents to mend his ways and return back to the church or else. Ryan is terrified because he knows from past experience that his parents will use whatever force necessary to get what they want.
This time Ryan is determined to fight for what is his, Daniel. After other anonymous letters arrive, Ryan and Daniel go to the police, but all they find is a negative response leaving them to cope on their own. Daniel is determined to give Ryan the love, support, and unwavering belief that he never had. As the threats mount can they find a way to keep their love alive?
Ms. Yates has created an incredible story that takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster. The love scenes between Daniel and Ryan are poignant, erotic, and funny all at the same time. Their willingness to love, cherish and accept each other is inspiring. The unfolding threat against them ensnares the reader from the start as Daniel and Ryan fight to keep each safe. With the help of their many friends and family they somehow manage to cope with situations that would overwhelm most people.
The social issues around homophobia are clearly shown in Ryan's parents' acceptance of him and his life. The fight for gay rights is prevalent in today's news as they push for the same rights as straight people enjoy. The many unique characters add depth and richness to the story. I loved how two children, Eric and Edward, accepted and loved Ryan immediately. If all people would look at each other with the eyes of a child the world would be a better place. Thanks go to Ms. Yates for a story that I will never forget.
