Ryan Johnston wanted a clean slate and a possible relationship with Daniel Miller, his best friend’s older brother. What he hoped would be an easy conversation with his parents regarding his attraction to men goes horrible wrong. When his parent’s turn on him in a fair imitation of the return of Cujo, Ryan has no choice but to leave those he loves behind. Four years later, Ryan has returned from Canada to watch his sister marry his best friend, even if it’s from the shadows.
Daniel cannot believe his eyes; the man he has loved for so long has returned. He wants answers, and while he wasn’t ready for the truth, Daniel is certain he has enough love to heal Ryan’s battered heart. However, is it too much to hope for that Ryan wants to be a part of his life? Can he talk him into staying?
Serena Yates’ To Find and to Keep is part of the Dreamspinner’s To Have and to Hold collection. Ryan is a sensitive, compassionate soul, full of hurt, whose ego has endured a bone-deep beating. Thoughts of Daniel have given him solace over the years and helped him bear his insufferable circumstances. Daniel has never forgotten his brother’s best friend and his feelings developed even more for Ryan, regardless of their lack of communication. I loved his willingness to support Ryan in every way possible and his selfless acts along the way. The parents are a special piece of work and should have their heads mounted over a fireplace, but I think that would just take away from any room’s décor, thanks to the ugliness they radiate. I’m new to Serena Yates and if this story is any indication to what I have to look forward to, I’m ready for her next book to hit the stand. To Find and to Keep is about second chances at love and life, about finding yourself and gaining support when you need it the most. This is a wonderful story sure to make fans of the genre at the very least misty and pretending they have allergies.
