Rescuing the Librarian by Serena Yates is the first book in the New Horizons series.
Anton Collins doesn't know what he is going to do. He was just notified that the Komlos Foundation is sending someone on Wednesday to evaluate him and two others for next year's research grants. Anton loves his job at the library where he has access to the foundation's manuscripts to continue his work. Unfortunately, most people find his subject matter uninteresting and without the grant he can't continue his research. During work, a man, Scott Black, arrives asking for Anton's assistance to learn about what a librarian does to help in an acting audition. Anton is immediately attracted to everything about Scott and he jumps in with his eyes wide open. Scott is also drawn to Anton, but he is afraid what will happen if Anton learns about his past. Will Anton win the grant or will he find another path to follow? What is Scott hiding and how will Anton react when he uncovers it?
Ms. Yates has begun a fun series with Rescuing the Librarian. Anton is an interesting character with his intelligence and child-like reaction to Scott's interest in him. Anton can't believe that anyone as handsome could want him. Anton's responses to Scott surprise and amaze him. Scott doesn't think that anyone as smart as Anton could love him, especially with his limited education. Many people like Scott go their own way resisting what their family wants leaving them guilty when they follow their own dreams. If everyone's family would just love and accept each other the world would be a better place. The end of the story leaves the reader waiting to find out what will happen next for Anton and Scott.
